Busking Blog - February 3, 2013

The other day, while busking at the train station, I was alternately amused and annoyed by two men who appeared to have been drinking at the restaurant across the room from me. I was playing "New Revolution" and really enjoying myself.
The song has the words
     "Thomas Jefferson, guys like that,
      got tired of England living off their fat.
      Sent off a letter to George the Third
      the 'Pursuit of Happiness,' that's the word."

So the one guy stumbles over, pulls out his wallet, and sticks his drivers license in my face expecting me to read it while I'm in the middle of playing this song. See, he says, I'm George III.

I think it's quite possible that this his actual name. I'll have to confirm this with him the next time I'm busking. He seems to be around a lot.

He went away for awhile but then his friend came by. He was wearing a military jacket with Marines badges all over it. It also had this sewn in red thread into the front of the jacket: "And Jesus said there will be a weeping and gnashing of teeth." This was followed by the name and number of his company.

He told me he was a millionaire and he pulled a huge wad of bills from his pocket. He left me a good tip. They both did. Even though I couldn't play half the songs they were requesting and which they themselves didn't know the words too.

West Bay is a lovely little village on Cape Breton Island in northern Nova Scotia, Canada. This is where my wife and I spend part of the year in a cabin in the woods. For the past couple of years I have been collecting video footage from the area and working on this song. It has finally all come together in this video. You can watch it on YouTube at this link:
